Mike has over 13 years of focus on hiring Mid-Level to Executive Suite positions throughout North America. Whether it has been hiring a new General Manager for a client in Western Canada, an Operations Manager for a Distributor in Los Angeles, or a Lumber Trader based in Northern Alberta, Mike’s versatility and understanding of what is necessary for success in this business sector is crucial.Providing Executive Search and Recruitment services to customers across Canada and the United States, Mike’s experience includes manufacturers and distributors of building materials, residential/commercial construction and build/design companies and contractors. Away from work, Mike and his wife Kim are active members of the community, taking advantage of the ski hills, hiking trails, golf courses, and wineries of the area! We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Vice President of Sales to join our clients' leadership team. Reporting to the CEO, this role is critical to driving the growth and success of the business, driving profit, and shaping the company's commercial strategy within the lumber and building materials market. The successful candidate will have a strong background in sales strategy, data management, and process optimization, with the ability to segment markets, manage a diverse product portfolio, and develop impactful programs. Hands on leadership to the sales organization across all business units ensuring alignment with the core values of customer centric and long-term business objectives.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
  • Develop and execute high-impact sales strategies that drive new customer acquisition and increase market share across diverse product markets.
  • Cultivate a high-performance selling culture within the sales team, ensuring alignment with broader corporate business goals and brand values.
  • Implement data-driven strategies to monitor and optimize the performance of products, marketing efforts, and sales processes.
Market Development:
  • Take a holistic view of the product portfolio to identify and capitalize on market opportunities, especially within commercial and industrial markets.
  • Develop and manage programs to effectively promote products to target audiences.
  • Identify and develop strategic relationships with key industry players to support business growth and market penetration.
Sales Process Optimization:
  • Lead initiatives to scale sales processes, including the implementation of performance monitoring tools and sales analytics.
  • Drive the adoption and optimization of CRM and ERP systems to enhance data management, sales tracking, and overall business intelligence.
  • Implement strategies to identify high-potential products and phase out underperforming ones, ensuring a focus on profitable growth.
Talent Development:
  • Develop a three-year strategy for talent management, ensuring the right people are in the right roles to achieve business objectives.
  • Provide coaching and leadership to the sales team, holding individuals accountable while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Partner with the management team to recruit and onboard top sales talent and support the team in structuring complex deals.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Marketing, or a related field; MBA or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of progressive sales leadership experience within the lumber, building materials, or B2B distribution industry.
  • Proven track record of driving sustainable revenue growth and margin improvement.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large, multi-region sales teams and managing complex customer portfolios within commercial and industrial markets.
  • Strong business acumen and financial literacy (P&L management, margin analysis).
  • CRM and data analytics proficiency (Salesforce or equivalent).
  • Strategic planning, contract negotiation, and performance management expertise.
  • Visionary leadership with the ability to inspire, coach, and influence across all levels.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
