Our client is a globally recognized architecture and design firm known for delivering innovative, sustainable, and human-centric solutions across a broad spectrum of sectors. With a strong presence in the healthcare space, their Toronto studio is growing and looking to bring on a talented Medical Planner to help lead the planning and design of complex healthcare environments across Canada and internationally.

About The Role

The Medical Planner will play a key role in the strategic planning, programming, and design of healthcare facilities. This individual will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and healthcare clients to shape responsive, efficient, and forward-thinking healthcare environments that prioritize patient care, operational efficiency, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the healthcare planning process on major projects from early visioning through to detailed design
  • Collaborate with clients, consultants, and internal design teams to develop functional and space programs
  • Interpret clinical workflows and translate them into efficient and flexible design solutions
  • Coordinate medical planning requirements with architectural, engineering, and specialty consultants
  • Mentor and guide junior planners and designers
  • Participate in user group meetings, client presentations, and stakeholder engagement sessions
  • Stay current with healthcare design trends, clinical technologies, and regulatory standards
  • Contribute to business development, proposals, and client relationship building where appropriate
Qualifications
  • Professional degree in Architecture; licensure is an asset
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, with a strong focus in healthcare planning
  • Proven experience on medium to large-scale healthcare projects (hospitals, ambulatory care, medical campuses, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of clinical operations, healthcare codes and guidelines (e.g., CSA Z8000, FGI)
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and client engagement skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a collaborative studio environment
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office; familiarity with healthcare-specific planning tools is an asset
