Senior EWP Designer

EWP Designer (Engineered Wood Products)
Location: Edmonton, AB

Overview
Our client is looking for an EWP Designer to join their growing team. This role focuses on the design and layout of engineered wood product systems including I-joists, LVL, and beam layouts for residential and light commercial construction.
They are open to strong local candidates in Edmonton, but will also consider experienced remote designers who can work independently and collaborate effectively with the team.

Key Responsibilities

• Design floor and roof systems using engineered wood products (I-joists, LVL, beams)
• Interpret architectural and structural drawings to produce accurate layouts
• Complete material take-offs and generate optimized design solutions
• Ensure all designs meet building codes, engineering standards, and project specifications
• Work closely with sales teams to support quoting and value engineering opportunities
• Communicate with builders, framers, and contractors to clarify project requirements
• Revise and adjust designs based on feedback, site conditions, or cost efficiencies
• Manage multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and timelines

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in EWP design
• Proficiency in design software such as MiTek, Weyerhaeuser Forte, or similar
• Strong understanding of structural systems, spans, and load calculations
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents
• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
• Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally

Preferred

• Experience working for a lumber yard, truss plant, or EWP manufacturer
• Knowledge of local building codes in Alberta or Western Canada
• Engineering technologist diploma or related education
