We're recruiting for an established North American metals organization that continues to invest in its operations, processing capabilities and long-term growth.

We're looking for an experienced Purchasing & Inventory Specialist who understands steel, purchasing and inventory — and can anticipate what the business will need next.

This isn't simply a PO-processing role. You'll work closely with sales and operations, using inventory, demand, pricing and market activity to make smart purchasing decisions.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Analyze inventory and sales activity to anticipate material requirements
• Determine what to buy, how much and when
• Work with sales and operations to understand upcoming demand
• Issue RFQs and work directly with mills and suppliers
• Evaluate and negotiate pricing, availability, lead times and terms
• Manage purchase orders and track material through delivery
• Monitor steel pricing, inventory levels and potential supply issues
• Use Excel and ERP/MRP systems to analyze inventory and purchasing

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

You have experience in purchasing, procurement, inventory planning or materials management and understand steel or metals as both a purchased material and inventory.

Relevant backgrounds include:
Steel Service Centres | Metal Distribution | Sheet & Coil | Steel Processing | Roll Forming | Metal Building Products | Metal Fabrication | Steel-Consuming Manufacturing


You'll bring:

• Experience purchasing or managing steel, aluminum, stainless or other metals
• Strong inventory analysis and planning skills
• Experience with RFQs, mills, suppliers or processors
• Strong Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems
• The ability to take ownership, solve problems and think ahead

Experience with sheet and coil, prepainted or galvanized steel, stainless or aluminum is particularly valuable. International sourcing, mill relationships, imports or landed-cost experience would be an asset.
