About the Job
As the Director of Design, you will lead and inspire the design team to create breathtaking timber frame homes that reflect clients’ dreams and the surrounding environment. You will drive the overall vision and strategic direction of the design department, ensuring that each project maintains high standards of innovation, sustainability, and aesthetic excellence. Your leadership will guide our talented designers and architects in producing extraordinary work that embodies our values of craftsmanship, sustainability, and timeless beauty.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Design Team: Manage and mentor a team of Designers, and Drafters, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Design Leadership: Develop and implement innovative design strategies that align with the company’s vision and uphold our reputation for exceptional timber frame homes.
- Client Collaboration: Engage directly with clients to understand their needs, translate their vision into functional and beautiful designs, and provide guidance throughout the design process.
- Project Oversight: Oversee all design phases from conceptualization through to completion, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
- Quality Assurance: Review and approve design concepts, construction documents, and specifications to ensure consistency, accuracy, and adherence to company standards.
- Sustainability Focus: Champion sustainable and eco-friendly design practices, integrating green building technologies and materials to minimize environmental impact.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the engineering, sales, and construction teams to ensure seamless project execution and delivery.
- Industry Trends: Stay current with design trends, materials, and building technologies, continually bringing fresh ideas and perspectives to the team.
- Business Development: Support business development efforts by participating in client presentations, project pitches, and representing the company at industry events.
- Diploma, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in residential design, with a strong portfolio of custom homes, ideally timber frame or sustainable architecture.
- Proven leadership experience with a track record of managing and developing high-performing design teams.
- Expertise in architectural design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Strong understanding of sustainable building practices and green certifications (LEED, Passive House, etc.).
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to inspire clients and teams.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
