Our client, a well-established and highly respected distributor within the building materials sector, is looking to add a commercially driven Lumber Commodity Trader to their Kelowna, BC operation.

Supporting the Okanagan and broader Interior BC market, this role plays a key part in managing lumber purchasing, pricing strategy, margin performance, and customer growth across a dynamic and often volatile commodity environment.

This is not an order-taking sales role — it's about understanding the lumber cycle, making smart buy/sell decisions, protecting margin, and building strong, long-term relationships with regional yards and contractors.

What You'll Own
You'll take responsibility for buying and selling dimensional lumber and panel products, managing spread and gross margin performance while monitoring market fluctuations and regional demand.

You'll build and maintain strong relationships with independent lumber yards, contractors, and key accounts across Kelowna, Kamloops, Vernon, Penticton, and surrounding Interior markets.

The role includes inventory management, forecasting, risk mitigation tied to price volatility, and working closely with suppliers and mills to ensure competitive positioning.

You'll also contribute market intelligence and pricing insight to leadership, helping drive strategic growth across BC.

What They're Really Looking For
A commercially sharp individual with experience in lumber trading, commodity sales, or building materials distribution. Someone who understands pricing cycles, supply/demand dynamics, and how to protect margin in a fluctuating market.

You're competitive, analytical, and confident in negotiation. You build strong relationships but are equally comfortable making decisive commercial calls.
Most importantly, they're looking for someone who thrives in a performance-driven environment and wants to grow their long-term career within a stable, well-structured organization.

This role offers strong internal support, a clear onboarding structure, and the opportunity to build a highly profitable trading desk within the BC Interior market.
