Business Development Manager - Building Materials - Wood and Coatings
Directeur du développement commercial
Ontario Region
Building Materials | Wood/Coatings
London, ON
Our client is a highly regarded manufacturer within the building materials sector with a strong brand, a history of product innovation, and a commitment to quality and customer service. They continue to invest in people, processes, and product development to support sustained growth across the markets they serve, both domestic and international. The Business Development Manager will divide their time between building a strong pipeline of opportunities with new dealers, OEMs, and specialty partners in the LBM/Specialty Coatings channel across Ontario, and nurturing existing relationships with clients. The goal is to strengthen partnerships, uncover new revenue, and support the long term success of the territory.
This role is suited to a sales professional who understands the building materials landscape and enjoys combining account management with strategic growth. You will work closely with customers to educate, promote, and expand the product lines, while identifying new markets and applications that align with the company’s strengths.
Our client has built a strong internal culture and wants this individual to be part of it day to day - to learn, to train, to contribute, to inspire others. When not on the road meeting with customers, the role is based at the head office - based in Middlesex County. The team learns by working together in the same space, sharing information, and building knowledge through real time collaboration. This cannot be achieved in a remote structure, so on site engagement is an important part of the position.

• Manage and grow an established portfolio of accounts across Ontario, mining for new and uncovered sales opportunities

• Track activity, forecasting, and account development in CRM
• Monitor competitor activity and market trends and share insights with the leadership team
• Engage with architects and specifiers to increase product adoption on larger projects
• Follow all planning and meeting protocols, including preparation, agendas, and timely follow up
Required Experience
• Experienced in customer facing, outside sales roles within the building materials or lumber industry, wood supply, or coatings segments, preferably calling on LBM dealers, independent home improvement, OEMs, or related customer groups
• Strong technical aptitude and comfort discussing product applications
• Adaptable and eager to learn product categories that are unfamiliar
• Proven territory management and business development skills
• Ability to develop trusting relationships across contractor, dealer, and manufacturing audiences
• Comfortable creating and delivering presentations and proposals
• Strong planning, forecasting, and CRM discipline
• Willingness to travel approximately 30% for appropriate geographic coverage
• 70% of the time will be spent working from the head office, working with peers, developing strategic plans with leadership, and contributing to a culture of best practice, excellence, and innovation.
