Senior Associate Architect
Halifax, Nova Scotia
Compensation: $130 - 150K, Bonus, Pathway to Partnership/Principal

THE OPPORTUNITY
Our client, a highly respected and design-driven architectural practice based in Halifax, is seeking a Senior Associate Architect to join their leadership team. This search represents a key succession and growth hire within a studio known for delivering thoughtful, community-shaping architecture across Atlantic Canada.

With a legacy spanning more than six decades, the firm has built a diverse portfolio of work across civic, institutional, healthcare, mixed-use, cultural, and community sectors. Their projects are recognized for balancing design excellence with technical rigor and contextual sensitivity. The studio operates within a collaborative, open environment where mentorship, shared design dialogue, and professional integrity are central to its culture.

THE ROLE
The Senior Associate Architect will play a pivotal role in both project leadership and studio development. This individual will contribute strategically to design direction, oversee complex projects from concept through construction, and mentor emerging professionals within the practice.
This role is suited to a design-oriented leader who values collaborative studio culture, long-term client relationships, and delivering architecture that meaningfully contributes to the public realm.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead significant architectural projects from schematic design through construction administration.
  • Uphold and elevate design quality across a range of project typologies, including civic, institutional, and mixed-use developments.
  • Provide senior mentorship to architects, interns, and technical staff.
  • Maintain oversight of project documentation, consultant coordination, and quality assurance.
  • Act as a trusted client liaison, reinforcing long-standing relationships and contributing to business development initiatives.
  • Support the Principals in advancing studio standards, operational excellence, and strategic growth.
IDEL PROFILE
  • Registered Architect in good standing with the Nova Scotia Association of Architects (NSAA) — mandatory.
  • 10–15 years of progressive architectural experience, including leadership of complex projects.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering public, institutional, healthcare, or mixed-use projects.
  • Strong design sensibility combined with technical and construction expertise.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior staff.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Committed to collaborative practice, studio culture, and long-term professional growth.
