Q: Where did your career start, and what led you to recruitment?

Michelle: My first job was at McDonald’s, as a top sales drive thru crew member.  My real entry into recruitment came when I applied for a recruitment onboarding coordinator role at McDonald’s. Honestly, I applied because I could wear jeans (bye bye polyester!). I had no idea it would catapult me into a decades-long career in HR, with recruitment always at the heart of my work.

Over time, I’ve come to truly appreciate the value that recruitment firms bring, and joining DMC felt like the perfect blend of something new yet familiar.

Q: What industries do you specialize in, and why?

Michelle: I focus on Real Estate Development, Construction, and Municipalities. Before recruitment, I worked inside municipalities in HR and currently in consulting roles, so I know firsthand what clients need and the level of service they expect.

Living and working in a fast-growing region of BC has fueled my fascination with development and growth. I stay connected by volunteering with Emergency Support Services, engaging with HR associations, and even co-authoring an article for Municipal World (out soon in October). I also serve on the committee for the Western Cities HR Conference, where I’ll be speaking this year. These experiences help me connect with professionals I’m now able to support even more meaningfully through recruitment.

Q: What do you enjoy most about recruitment?

Michelle: I’m a connector at heart. On the client side, I partner to understand their needs and deliver the best talent. On the candidate side, I help people achieve their career goals and land their dream roles. When the right person joins the right company at the right time, it’s a win-win.

Q: What’s something people are surprised to learn about you?

Michelle: I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs. My parents ran small businesses, and I learned early about sales, marketing, and the dedication it takes to build something from the ground up. That shaped my work ethic and my respect for trust, teamwork, and resilience—qualities I bring into every recruitment partnership.

And on the lighter side—I’m a bit of a thrill-seeker. I’ve skydived, parasailed, and even done the SkyJump off the STRAT in Las Vegas.

Q: If a recruiter were an animal, what would it be?

Michelle: An octopus! Recruitment often feels like juggling multiple searches, tracking the market, and staying two steps ahead for both clients and candidates. Eight arms (and maybe four laptops) would definitely come in handy.

Q: What has surprised you most about DMC so far?

Michelle: DMC truly walks the talk when it comes to mental health and well-being. Even though we’re spread across time zones, the team checks in regularly, celebrates wins, and gives recognition generously. The onboarding and training have been first-class, and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this team.

With her strong HR background, municipal insight, and genuine people-first approach, Michelle has already made an impact at DMC. She’s proud to support municipalities in building strong, resilient teams—and we’re proud to have her on ours.
