Sales Manager - Architectural Building Materials
Location: Toronto, ON
Compensation: $100,000-$130,000 base + commissions + car allowance + expenses + benefits

The Opportunity

We are partnering with a growing and highly respected supplier of architectural building materials to find a Sales Manager based in Toronto. This is a player-coach role ideal for a senior business development professional who enjoys staying close to the market while also providing leadership, strategy, and mentorship to a small national sales team.

This role is well suited to someone who thrives in a hands-on sales environment, maintains strong relationships within the Toronto A&D community, and is ready to step into a broader leadership mandate.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Sales Manager will oversee Canadian sales efforts, managing and supporting a team of three Business Development Representatives while also maintaining their own portfolio of key target accounts.
Given the size of the team, leadership responsibilities are expected to account for approximately 20-30% of the role, with the remaining time focused on direct sales, specification, and account management. There is potential to expand the scope to include oversight of the inside sales and estimating functions, depending on experience and business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Leadership & Strategy
  • Lead, coach, and support 3 Business Development Representatives across Canada
  • Set sales targets, track performance, and help the team strategize on key pursuits
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and market insight to support individual and team success
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on sales planning, forecasting, and growth strategy
Direct Sales & Market Engagement
  • Personally manage a list of strategic target accounts within the GTA
  • Drive specifications with architects, designers, developers, contractors, and end users
  • Conduct product presentations, lunch-and-learns, CEU sessions, and client meetings
  • Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and networking functions
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with inside sales, estimating, design, and operations teams to ensure project success
  • Support RFP responses, pricing strategy, and technical coordination
  • Maintain accurate CRM data, pipelines, and sales forecasts
  • Stay informed on market trends, competitor activity, and emerging opportunities
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of progressive sales or business development experience within:
    • Architectural building materials
    • Architectural walls
    • Commercial interiors or related construction products
  • Established A&D network in Toronto / GTA (mandatory)
  • Prior experience leading or mentoring sales teams is strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of the architectural and construction process
  • Ability to read drawings and understand construction documentation is an asset
  • Confident communicator with a consultative, relationship-driven approach
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and comfortable balancing leadership with direct sales
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle (car allowance provided)
