Compensation: Base $75,000–$90,000 + KPI Bonus + Benefits
We are recruiting a Retail Store Manager to lead and grow the retail division of a well-established independent building materials supplier South of Winnipeg.
This is a business-driven leadership role focused on revitalizing and expanding the retail operation.
The company operates a larger contractor and construction supply business alongside retail, and the incoming leader will have full autonomy over the retail side of the operation, with responsibility for strategy, procurement, merchandising, and team leadership.

The Opportunity
This role is designed for a commercially minded Retail Leader or Business Operator who wants the autonomy to run a retail operation like its own business.
You will oversee five core departments – Paint, Plumbing, Electrical, Tools, and Hardware – and lead a team of approximately 18 retail employees, including department managers responsible for their own procurement and sales performance.
The role offers the opportunity to drive growth, optimize purchasing strategies, and influence profitability, while building and developing the next generation of department leaders.
Key elements of the role include:
Taking full ownership of the retail division’s P&L performance
Driving sales growth and profitability across five retail departments
Leading procurement strategy and vendor negotiations
Managing and developing a team of department heads and retail staff
Building a culture of accountability and commercial ownership
Treating the retail division as its own business unit within the company
Key Responsibilities
Lead the retail store’s commercial strategy and operational performance
Manage a team of approximately 18 staff across five departments
Drive department-level growth through pricing, purchasing, and merchandising strategy
Own responsibility for gross profit, margin, inventory turns, and departmental performance
Negotiate with vendors and manage purchasing decisions
Work closely with ownership to align retail growth with broader company strategy
Develop and mentor department heads while supporting future leadership transitions
Maintain a positive, people-focused culture while ensuring strong accountability
Ideal Profile
5–10+ years of leadership experience in retail, trade supply, or technical distribution
Strong business acumen and financial understanding, including P&L responsibility
Experience in procurement, purchasing, or vendor negotiation
Proven ability to lead and influence established teams
Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to identify and drive growth opportunities
Background in industrial supply, contractor sales, hardware, or building materials is highly desirable
This role is particularly suited to candidates coming from independent distributors, industrial supply businesses, or smaller commercial operations where leaders operate with high autonomy.
