PRINCIPAL - ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia
Compensation: $150 - 180K + Bonus

THE OPPORTUNITY
A highly respected, international Architecture, Design & Engineering firm is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Principal to join its Vancouver leadership team. This role represents a strategic opportunity for a senior engineering leader to grow and lead the electrical discipline, expand market presence, and play a key role in the firm's long-term growth strategy in British Columbia.
This position is ideal for a Principal-level Electrical Engineer with a strong combination of technical excellence, people leadership, and business development capability, who is motivated by building teams, strengthening client relationships, and growing institutional work within a global platform.

ROLE OVERVIEW
As an Electrical Engineering Principal, you will be responsible for both technical and business leadership of the electrical discipline in Vancouver. You will act as a trusted technical advisor, client-facing leader, and mentor to engineering teams, while actively contributing to strategic business development and practice growth.
This role offers a clear pathway to long-term senior leadership and Partner-level responsibility, depending on experience and performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Practice Leadership & Growth
  • Lead and grow the Electrical Engineering practice in Vancouver, aligned with regional and national strategy.
  • Set technical direction, staffing strategy, and performance expectations for the discipline.
  • Contribute to long-term planning, resourcing, and succession for the electrical team.
Strategic Business Development
  • Drive business development initiatives across institutional markets, including healthcare, post-secondary, K-12 education, and civic facilities.
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with public- and private-sector clients.
  • Lead or support pursuit strategy, proposals, and interviews in collaboration with architectural and engineering leadership.
  • Identify emerging market opportunities and help expand the firm's electrical engineering footprint in British Columbia.
Technical & Design Excellence
  • Provide senior technical leadership on complex institutional projects from concept through construction.
  • Ensure electrical systems are innovative, resilient, energy-efficient, and compliant with applicable codes and standards.
  • Oversee quality assurance, technical reviews, and risk management across projects.
  • Stay current with evolving technologies, sustainability strategies, and best practices.
Client Leadership
  • Serve as a primary client contact on key accounts.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, guiding clients through complex technical and operational challenges.
  • Support repeat work and expanded scope through strong client service and technical credibility.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
  • Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing electrical engineering teams.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and accountable team culture.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and development of future engineering leaders.
Project Oversight
  • Provide senior oversight of project delivery, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives are met.
  • Collaborate closely with architecture, mechanical, structural, and interior design teams to deliver integrated solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's an asset).
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) registered in British Columbia.
  • 10+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience, including senior leadership roles.
  • Extensive experience delivering institutional projects, including healthcare, education, civic, or similar public-sector facilities.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, client relationship management, and practice growth.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, influence strategy, and grow a discipline within a multidisciplinary firm.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian electrical codes, standards, and institutional project requirements.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to build, grow, and lead within a global organization.
