THE ROLE
As a Planner, you will support the planning, design and delivery of a diverse range of municipal and community-focused projects. Your responsibilities will include:
- Contributing to streetscape, public realm and urban design projects.
- Supporting transportation planning studies and mobility strategies.
- Helping develop active transportation networks, including pedestrian and cycling infrastructure.
- Applying Complete Streets principles to create safe, accessible and inclusive transportation environments.
- Reviewing transportation, land-use and development plans.
- Supporting corridor studies, neighbourhood plans and street design initiatives.
- Conducting research, site analysis, policy reviews and technical assessments.
- Preparing reports, presentations, maps and planning recommendations.
- Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, including transportation and civil engineers.
- Participating in public consultation, community engagement and stakeholder meetings.
- Presenting project information clearly to clients, community groups and public-sector stakeholders.
- Supporting projects through municipal review and approval processes.
The successful candidate will bring:
- 3-6 years of direct professional experience in planning, transportation planning, urban design or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated project experience involving streetscapes, public realm improvements or corridor design.
- Practical experience with active transportation and Complete Streets projects.
- An understanding of pedestrian, cycling, transit and multimodal transportation planning.
- Experience working with—or within—multidisciplinary engineering and design teams.
- Knowledge of the relationship between transportation, land use, design and community development.
- Familiarity with municipal planning processes, policies, guidelines and relevant legislation.
- Strong written, visual and verbal communication skills.
- Experience supporting public engagement and stakeholder consultation.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple project priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD or similar design and mapping tools would be an asset.
- A degree in planning, urban design, transportation planning, geography, landscape architecture, engineering or a related discipline.
- Eligibility for membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners or a relevant provincial professional association is considered an asset.
- An engineering background or experience collaborating closely with transportation or civil engineering teams is preferred but not required.
