Position Summary:
 
The Maintenance Supervisor will report to the Engineering & Maintenance Manager and will coordinate the activities of the Tool Room and Maintenance personnel in order to meet production requirements. The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of all plant equipment and machinery, leading a team of maintenance technicians, and implementing preventive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and enhance productivity. The Maintenance Supervisor must abide by and enforce all safety procedures and company policies.
 
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Supervise Maintenance Team: Lead, train, and manage a team of maintenance technicians, ensuring high performance and adherence to safety standards.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules and procedures to ensure the reliability and longevity of plant equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and Repairs: Assist the maintenance team in diagnosing and resolving mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in a timely manner to minimize production downtime.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain an inventory of spare parts and tools, ensuring availability for routine and emergency repairs.
  • Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Budget Management: Assist in the preparation and management of the maintenance budget, including cost control and resource allocation.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment history, work orders, and employee hours.
Other Responsibilities:                
  • Ensure materials are available to complete tasks.
  • Estimate jobs, review with management and approve work.
  • Assign tasks to staff members and ensure they are carried out efficiently.
  • Ensure tasks are completed within the estimated times and that deadlines are met.
  • Schedule overtime as required to accomplish tasks and support the production team.
  • Advise of delays or conflicts and suggest solutions.
  • Analyze and repair equipment failures. Able to provide long-term solutions to machine problems, with a focus on preventing failures from recurring.
  • Review equipment concepts and designs for cost, manufacturability, life expectancy, safety, ergonomics and feasibility.
  • Make recommendations to improve the efficiency of the department.
  • Work with other departments to ensure equipment maintenance and repairs allow for optimum uptime.
  • Document issues with employees as outlined in Bulletin # 611, Mgmt Reinforcement of Policies & Procedures with Respect to Health and Safety.
  • Ensure safety procedures and policies are followed and inform Manager immediately of any unsafe or potentially dangerous situations.
  • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled inspections of the department and maintain records.
  • Other tasks as assigned by management.
Job Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • TPM/ Lean manufacturing experience would be considered an asset
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems; excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in using maintenance management software.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, with strong communication and interpersonal skills; good English communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Possession of a valid Ontario Tool and Die Maker Certificate, Millwright/Electrician License, or equivalent.
  • Solid understanding of algebra & geometry; Mathematical & mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read & understand tooling blueprints and to machine close tolerances.
  • Required to have and use own tools.
  • Must be a compassionate team player and respectful of others.
  • Must be willing to take initiative and possess a high level of integrity.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
