Are you a hands-on operational leader who thrives on building high-performing teams, optimizing processes, and driving profitable growth? Do you enjoy taking ownership of a business, improving efficiencies, and creating a culture of accountability and customer excellence?

Our client, a highly successful and growing leader in the Industrial Distribution and Manufacturing sector, is seeking a General Manager to lead the overall performance of their London operation. This is a true business leadership role with full responsibility for branch operations, profitability, inventory management, customer satisfaction, employee development, and strategic growth.

Reporting directly to senior leadership, the General Manager will act as the operational quarterback of the business—ensuring seamless execution across warehouse operations, inventory management, purchasing, customer service, and sales. The successful candidate will bring a strong operational mindset, a passion for continuous improvement, and the leadership skills necessary to drive performance across all areas of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership & Business Performance
  • Lead all day-to-day branch operations, ensuring a safe, efficient, and customer-focused environment.
  • Drive operational excellence through process improvement, workflow optimization, and performance management.
  • Establish, monitor, and improve key operational metrics related to inventory accuracy, order fulfillment, delivery performance, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and execute strategic initiatives that support long-term growth, profitability, and operational scalability.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and operational discipline.
  • Partner with senior leadership to establish branch objectives, growth strategies, and operational priorities.
Financial Management
  • Maintain full P&L responsibility for the branch and drive overall business performance.
  • Develop annual operating budgets and monitor results against key financial targets.
  • Analyze financial and operational data to identify opportunities for increased profitability and improved efficiency.
  • Implement cost-control measures while maintaining exceptional service levels and operational effectiveness.
  • Develop both short- and long-term business plans to support sustainable growth.
Inventory & Supply Chain Management
  • Oversee inventory strategy, procurement, replenishment, and warehouse management to ensure optimal stock levels and product availability.
  • Collaborate with sales and purchasing teams to establish effective inventory planning, min/max levels, and forecasting strategies.
  • Drive inventory accuracy and working capital efficiency while ensuring customer demand is consistently met.
  • Ensure timely procurement and delivery of inventory while maintaining strong supplier relationships.
Sales & Customer Experience
  • Support and coach inside and outside sales teams to achieve growth objectives and maximize customer retention.
  • Work collaboratively with the sales team to identify market opportunities, improve customer engagement, and drive revenue growth.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key customers and serve as the face of the organization within the local market.
  • Champion a customer-first culture focused on service excellence, responsiveness, and long-term partnerships.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain top talent across all functional areas of the branch.
  • Build a high-performance culture through coaching, accountability, and employee engagement.
  • Lead by example and create an environment where employees are empowered to contribute to the success of the business.
  • Promote and maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety and operational best practices.
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of senior management experience within Industrial Distribution, Manufacturing, Wholesale Distribution, or a related industry.
  • Demonstrated success leading branch operations with full P&L accountability.
  • Strong operational leadership experience, including warehouse management, inventory control, procurement, logistics, and process improvement.
  • Proven ability to build, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to analyze financial and operational metrics to drive decision-making.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
  • A proactive, results-oriented leader who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves and leading from the front.
