THE SCOPE


Our client, a leading distributor of premium interior and exterior building products, is seeking a Specification Sales Representative to support the growth of their specification focus throughout Southern California. This newly created position is a high profile opportunity to represent their line of exclusive products within the market, developing new relationships and catering to existing client demand for their unique product lines.

The company currently has established specification sales teams in other regions across North America, where the model has been extremely successful. Due to market appetite, a desirable and appropriate product mix for Southern California, and strong manufacturer support, they are now replicating the position within this key market as part of their continued investment into specification-driven growth. While their Specification focus will be new to the market, their distribution sales presence within this region is well established with longevity, a strong customer base, and a solid reputation.

Working closely with the architectural and design community, the Specification Sales Representative will play a key role in driving awareness, education, and specification activity across their range of premium interior and exterior products. This is a greenfield-style opportunity with significant runway for an experienced Specification Sales specialist.


THE ROLE

The Specification Sales Representative will primarily focus on developing relationships with firms within Metro Los Angeles, which represents approximately +70% of the territory. Support of secondary markets such as Orange County and San Diego (quarterly) will round out the primary market focus for the role. This is a highly relationship-driven role centered around in-person engagement with architects, designers, developers, and other specification decision makers within the A&D community.


• Identify, develop, and maintain relationships within the architectural and design community
• Increase product specifications across relevant commercial and residential projects through presence, education, and promotion
• Develop an ongoing pipeline of sales opportunities for both residential and commercial projects
• Track and manage specified projects through the sales cycle using CRM tools to "hold the spec" through to application
• Work closely with sales leadership and internal teams to support project conversion and long-term growth
• Support marketing and business development initiatives within the specification channel
• Stay current on industry trends, competitive products, and market activity
• Partner with design firms to support and educate to ensure proper product selection and specification
• Maintain strong relationships with manufacturer partners, relying on them for your own product expertise and support


This role is home office based when not meeting with clients, hosting lunch & learns, conducting CEU sessions, attending industry event, and nurturing industry relationships. Administrative work, appointment setting, follow-up, and CRM management will be handled virtually from a home office environment.

Occasional overnight travel (less than 10%) to attend relevant industry events, conferences, and trade shows is required.

While the role offers flexibility and autonomy, in-person attendance at a bi-weekly regional sales meeting in the Anaheim area is encouraged. THE CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate is commercially minded, relationship-driven, and comfortable operating within long sales cycles tied to the specification process.
Qualifications include:

• Minimum 3 years of experience working in a Specification Sales position, promoting to architects, designers, builders/developers, and other relevant specifier clients.
• Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills
• Self-motivated with an entrepreneurial approach and a passion for growing market share
• Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously
• Experience using CRM platforms and Microsoft Office Suite
• Interior design, architecture, or related educational background considered an asset
• Able to build upon existing relationships within the Southern California A&D community

Salary Disclosure
Base Salary Range depending on experience & relationship depth within the industry ($100,000 - $130,000) + vehicle allowance + bonus + comprehensive benefits plan + 401k + 3 - 4 weeks vacation.
