The Opportunity

Our client is an established and highly respected North American Building Materials brand with a reputation for quality products, technical expertise, and exceptional customer support. With an established distribution platform and strong relationships already in place throughout Southern California, the business is now making a strategic investment in growing its Architectural & Design specification presence across one of the most important construction markets in North America.

This is a true greenfield opportunity. While the company enjoys strong market awareness and an existing customer base, the specification channel represents significant untapped potential. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build that business from the ground up, supported by an experienced leadership team, established distribution partners, technical resources, and a recognized brand.

The Role

Reporting to sales leadership, the Specification Sales Representative will be responsible for developing relationships with architects, interior designers, developers, building owners, and general contractors throughout Southern California. The primary objective is to increase product specifications on commercial and high-end residential projects while supporting the successful pull-through of those specifications via the company's distribution network.

Success in this position will come through establishing credibility within the architectural community, educating design professionals on the company's product offering, identifying project opportunities early in the design cycle, and maintaining engagement throughout construction to ensure specifications convert into completed sales.

Working closely with internal partners and inside sales support colleagues, the successful candidate will provide technical product support, deliver educational presentations, coordinate product demonstrations, assist with project take-offs where appropriate, and ensure customers receive a consistently high level of service throughout the project lifecycle.

The territory spans Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, and the Inland Empire. While regular travel throughout the region is expected, overnight travel is limited. The successful candidate will also participate in industry associations, networking events, architectural presentations, and trade shows to further strengthen the company's presence within the design community.


The Ideal Candidate

This opportunity is ideally suited to an experienced Specification Representative or Architectural Sales professional who understands how to influence projects at the design stage and successfully drive specifications through to project completion.

Candidates may come from a variety of specialty Building Materials sectors, particularly those selling technical, specialty, or design-oriented products through the architectural community. Experience within exterior or interior finish products, architectural systems, cladding, specialty wood products, architectural panels, flooring, commercial interiors, or related categories will be highly regarded.

The successful candidate will possess an established network within the Southern California A&D community and demonstrate the credibility, professionalism, and technical aptitude required to engage architects, designers, developers, and contractors as a trusted resource.

Equally important is the ability to work collaboratively with distribution partners, balancing specification development with commercial awareness and a strong understanding of how projects progress from design through construction.


Qualifications

• Proven experience in Architectural & Design Specification Sales within the Building Materials industry.
• Existing relationships within the Southern California architecture and design community.
• Strong understanding of specification selling, project management, and pull-through sales strategies.
• Experience presenting to architects, designers, developers, and general contractors.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
• Self-motivated and comfortable developing a territory with a high degree of autonomy.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
• Based within the Los Angeles or Orange County market, with the ability to travel throughout Southern California.

Salary Disclosure: Base Salary $110,000 - $140,000 + Bonus, Benefits, Vehicle Program, 401k Matching.
