Celebrating International Women’s Day – Announcing, DMC Recruitment’s ‘Parental Leave Program’

These days it seems as if every day is an “International Day” of something or other; Banana Cream Pie, Pandas, Horse Protection and the Tooth Fairy. While all are valid and certainly important to some, International Women’s Day is one that our team here at DMC Recruitment are fully committed to amplifying, acknowledging, and celebrating in a meaningful way. We are immensely proud to say that 2 of our 3 Founding Partners are women, and currently three-quarters of our employees are women.

In honour of International Women’s Day, we wanted to do something more than just SAY something. We want to DO something and put our support for Women and families into meaningful action on a local level, within our own fast-growing business. We are hopeful that our actions not only benefit our own employees, but also set a positive example for our overall industry who often overlook or downplay the additional struggles women face to balance work and home life.

We are proud to announce our Parental Leave Program which will positively impact the lives of the women (and men!) within our own business with immediate effect. By introducing a Parental Leave Program, DMC is committing to support parents taking time off to care for a newborn or newly adopted child, and we have developed a company-funded bonus to ease the financial burden when returning to the workplace.

Additional parental support for employees is not common within the recruitment market in Canada and, by introducing this program for our team, we are hoping that more businesses like ours will see the opportunity and follow our lead to supporting growing families. We are made stronger by our employees, many of whom are balancing the challenges of working and raising/growing their families. For us it is personal that we step up to support and retain our most valuable asset – our people. We acknowledge that this Parental Leave Benefit makes a tangible improvement for the members of our own team, but feel that it is a step in the right direction that we can take at a local level.

While International Women’s Day is intended to amplify women’s contributions as well as struggles and aims to improve the situation of women all over the world, we would also like to demonstrate our support of our wider community. DMC Recruitment has made a monetary contribution to Kelowna Women’s Shelter which provides free food, shelter, counseling, support and preventative education to women and their children who have experienced intimate partner violence.
